Yoko's Mini Mart launch.

Yoko's Mini Mart launch.

As I write this the night before the launch of Yoko's Mini Mart, I'm so excited for what's to come. Whilst it feels like it has indeed taken an eternity to complete - 6 months in total, it really is just beginning. So I thought with this first blog post I'd fill you in on what it's all about. Comfy?

Yoko's Mini Mart for now is what I like to refer to as a new concept rather than a new collection. It is way more than just another collection as it marks the beginning of a new direction for my business.

So what's it all about? Yoko's Mini Mart is inspired by the nostalgia of the local corner shop, when I was little (in the 80's) me and my best friend would walk around the corner, get a sherbet dip, fresh bread, post a letter to a pen pal and every now and then kick the fizzy drink vending machine outside the door to see if a 20p can of our favourite drink would come loose and just drop out. And every now and then it did! A care free time of life. And it got me thinking, I often have customers message me and say how my work cheers them up and that whilst they may buy stuff for their children it was also kind of for them too. We all are guilty of making a purchase to make ourselves feel good, be it a new pair of shoes or a pen (I'm in the pen camp), a cake ( yep, that's me too) It's like buying a little slice happiness. And so the seed was sewn!

You will see many of the things mentioned above represented in this first phase of products. From the 20p graphic, to the orange, yellow and pink colour palette, to the fizzy cola lollipops that I will be sending out in the orders. It's what makes Yoko's Mini Mart so personal. Every tiny detail means something to me, and this has contributed largely to why it has taken so long to release.

I'm going to write some more about what's next, what I want to do with YMM and the exciting things I have rattling around in my head. I'm going to hang out here and write alot so pop a bookmark here.

All that's left to say tonight is - roll on tomorrow at 7.00pm!
